Young people who leave school at the age of 16 without adequate skills or qualifications could face real problems finding work or moving on later in life. In Brighton & Hove, the high number of skilled university graduates means there is already stiff competition for entry-level jobs and specialist industries in new media and recreation.  

youcan! aims to help young people aged 14-19 who are at risk of not being in employment, education or training with a flexible approach to their learning needs. We will do this by equipping them with entry-level and level 1 & 2 qualifications, skills for life and a clear plan of what to do next. youcan! is a Crew Club initiative designed to tackle a local issue so that every young person has a better chance of succeeding in life.

SoundBox Studio
Using our professional recording business SoundBox Studio, youcan! learn from industry teachers about live sound recording, music sequencing & production, composing music, music promotion and understanding the music industry. Progression route onto college course or work experience.
Rock School and Arts Award accredited (level 1 & 2).

Rock School & Hip Hop Live!
Using our live sound stage youcan! learn from music teachers about guitar skills, bass guitar skills, drum kit skills, keyboard skills, vocal skills, musicianship, MC skills, DJ skills and street dance for musicians. Progression route onto college course or work experience.

Visual Media
Using our state-of-the-art Apple suite youcan! learn from filmmaker teachers about storyboarding, filming techniques, video editing, DVD authoring, graphic design and music video. Progression route onto college course or work experience.

Football Coaching
Using our multi-use games area youcan! learn from football coaches about player development, health & safety, first aid certificate, child protection, administration and basic laws of the game. Progression onto college course or work experience.
Football Association accredited (level 1).

Sports Leadership
Using our multi-use games area youcan! learn from sports leaders about skills in leadership, organisation, planning, communication and teamwork by taking a group through a sport or recreational activity. Progression route onto college or work experience.

Everything we do incorporates literacy, language, numeracy and ICT, so youcan! have an opportunity to brush up on these key skills.
